Russia on Monday slammed the "counterproductive" decision to publish tenders for 1,187 new Jewish homes over the pre-1967 lines, AFP reported.

According to the report, the Russian foreign ministry said Moscow was "seriously concerned" by the move, especially given its timing on the eve of new negotiations with the Palestinians.

"The announcement of such plans on the eve of a new round of negotiations due to be held in Jerusalem on August 14 ... is a counterproductive step that complicates the atmosphere of the talks," AFP quoted the Russian ministry statement as saying.
