An official at the Syrian Ministry of Defense exchanged urgent phone calls with a leader of a chemical weapons unit, demanding answers for a chemical weapons strike that killed more than 1,000 people last week, according to Foreign Policy.

The phone call, overheard by US intelligence services, was apparently the reason American officials have confirmed the Assad regime is responsible for the deadly attack in Damascus last Wednesday.
