US Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice told the UN Security Council on Tuesday that Israel must "step up efforts to its efforts to counter anti-Palestinian violence and hate crimes against Palestinians" in an effort to promote an environment conducive to peace that will help peace talks in Amman.

The US envoy also condemned Palestinian "incitement to violence and continued terror attacks on civilians in Israel, including rocket attacks.'

She said the government of Jordan "deserves our gratitude," for hosting direct peace talks in Amman between Israeli and Palestinian delegations.

She said these "parties have begun a difficult but necessary process."
