Schools were set to reopen Friday in southern communities located between 7 and 40 kilometers of the Gaza Strip, including in Beersheba, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Kiryat Gat and Netivot, amongst others.

For communities located within seven kilometers of the Gazan border, school is slated to resume Sunday.

Schools in southern cities were closed during the 8 days of Operation Pillar of Defense, which concluded in a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas Wednesday night.
