A senior aide to the son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi stepped down from his position in a show of protest against the violent crackdown on anti-government protesters, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

"I resigned from the Gaddafi Foundation on Sunday to express dismay against violence," Youssef Sawani said.

Sawani served as executive director of the Gaddafi Foundation, which is run by Saif al-Islam Gaddafi.
