Sunni insurgents fought Iraqi Shi'ite militia at two locations in Diyala province on Friday, a security source and a local official said.

The clashes took place in Udhaim, north of Baghdad and in Muqdadiya, northeast of the capital.

This comes as an aide to Iraq's most senior Shi'ite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, urged people on Friday, to take up arms and defend their country from mostly Sunni insurgents.
