Syrian Foreign Ministry: Rebels might use chemical weapons

The Syrian Foreign Ministry warned on Saturday that rebels fighting to overthrow President Bashar Assad might use chemical weapons against the Syrian people, AFP reported.
"Terrorist groups may resort to using chemical weapons against the Syrian people... after having gained control of a toxic chlorine factory," AFP cited the Syrian Foreign Ministry as saying.
According to AFP, the ministry is believed to be referring to the Syrian-Saudi Chemicals Company factory near Safira that rebel groups took over earlier this week.
These comments were made amid global concerns that Assad's forces would use chemical weapons against rebels in their attempt to stop the ongoing civil war in Syria.
