The United Nations Security Council called on Wednesday for Syrian military forces and opposition fighters engaged in the country's civil war to cease "military activity of any kind" in the buffer zone between Syria and Israel in the Golan Heights.

The council called on all parties engaged in the Syrian conflict to exercise restraint in order to prevent an escalation of tensions and potentially breaching the ceasefire between Israel and Syria.

The 15-member council also resolved to extend until December 31 the UN mission monitoring the ceasefire between the two counties.
