Dan Quayle, who was former US president George H.W. Bush's vice president, became the highest ranking American official yet to call for the release of Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard on Monday.

In a letter to US President Barack Obama, Quayle called Pollard's life sentence "very extreme" and urged Obama to commute his sentence to the more than 25 years he has already served.
