After Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday said construction in Jerusalem will "continue as it has during the last 42 years," the US State Department said Monday night it was waiting for a "formal" Israeli response to its concerns over the approval of 1,600 new housing units in the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo, AFP reported.

"When she (US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton) outlined what she thought appropriate actions would be to the prime minister, she asked for a response by the Israeli government. We wait for the response," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley reportedly told journalists.
