WASHINGTON — North Korea could launch another provocative action within months, the top US military officer in the Pacific said Thursday, warning that would have "serious consequences."

Adm. Robert Willard, chief of the US Pacific Command, cited as recent provocations two military attacks on rival South Korea in the past year and North Korea's disclosure it has a uranium enrichment program, giving it another means of generating fissile material for its nuclear weapons program.

Willard said there was a "compressed timeline" in which leader Kim Jong Il has to hand over power to his youngest son Kim Jong Un and train him in such "coercive measures."
