Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez expressed his support for Syrian President Bassar Assad, AFP reported overnight Saturday.

Chavez reportedly called Assad "an Arab leader, a socialist, a humanist and a brother," and warned the West against getting involved in Syria and Libya.

"There is violence in one country, and then they get involved," Chavez reportedly said. "They take over natrual resources and turn the state into a colony."
