Citing the impressive 35 percent growth recorded by 3M Israel in 2006, international conglomerate 3M announced plans on Tuesday to expand its business here. The success of the Israel offices has been duly noted by 3M executives around the world, who view Israel as one of its strongest markets. "The business professionals in 3M Israel have an excellent understanding of which market segments it can best serve with unique 3M solutions - ones that help the Israeli customer be more successful," said Robin Torgerson, Director of 3M Europe Industrial Business. The announcement follows this week's visit to Israel by H.C. Shin, 3M's Executive Vice President of Industrial Business, who was here to evaluate 3M Israel's activities. 3M, fundamentally a science-based company that produces thousands of imaginative products from health care and highway safety to office products and optical films for LCD displays. 3M products are sold in some 200 countries around the world and it reported $22.9 billion in sales last year. Leshem declined to answer questions related to 3M Israel's revenues. 3M began selling products in Israel more than 30 years ago and established 3M Israel as a subsidiary in 1996. It now employs over 40 people in its Herzliya offices. The Israel headquarters are responsible for all of the distribution and marketing of products manufactured by the parent company, which include specialty materials such as chemicals, as well as aerospace products. According to Leshem, the company's focus has now turned to highly mechanized filtration systems, which are used by companies such as Coca-Cola and electronic component and pharmaceutical manufacturers, which require large amounts of filtered water. "3M has started developing the systems and our offices have been selling the systems to major corporations around the country over the last year - this is where our focus will be over the immediate future."
