$70m. US army order for vehicle equipment, latest in series of Elbit contracts

Defense electronics supplier Elbit Systems Ltd. said Sunday its US subsidiary EFW Inc has won a $70 million contract from the US Marine Corps Systems Command to supply equipment for use in its vehicles. EFW will develop, design, integrate, test, produce and install the equipment during 2006. In a separate deal, Elbit received an order for the "rapid deployment" of six of its Skylark mini-UAV (unmanned airborne vehicles) from the Australian army, the company announced Friday. Industry sources estimated the contract's value at approximately $5m. The Australian press quoted the country's defense minister Robert Hill as saying the system would be deployed immediately by Australian forces in Iraq. The Skylark system includes three air vehicles, a ground control station and day and night payloads. The deals follow a number of contract wins received by the company over the past week. Earlier, subsidiary Vision Systems received a $100m. order from Boeing Co. for 500 of its joint helmet mounted cueing system while Elbit company El-Op signed an agreement "worth several millions of dollars" with the French Space Agency for its electro space camera Venus. Elbit Systems has subsidiaries in the US, South America, Israel, and Europe, operating in the areas of aerospace, land and naval systems, command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, advanced electro-optic, and space technologies. Shares in Elbit rose 0.3 percent to NIS 109.1 in Tel Aviv on Sunday.
