Chemicals enjoy best year in decade

Israel's chemical and pharmaceutical industries closed out 2006 with their best year in a decade, as exports grew by 15.7 percent bringing in $8.8 billion while total sales increased by 12.6% with a 10% gain in domestic sales.

Israel's chemical and pharmaceutical industries closed out 2006 with their best year in a decade, as exports grew by 15.7 percent bringing in $8.8 billion while total sales increased by 12.6% with a 10% gain in domestic sales. Excluding the diamond industry, chemical and pharmaceutical products comprise Israel's largest export sector accounting for 30% of all exports. Shuki Gold, chairman of the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries Association predicted even more robust sales in 2007. The industry currently employs 28,700 workers.
