The Geophysical Institute of Israel (GII) won a $12 million tender through Australian oil explorer Roc Oil Co. Ltd. to conduct a seismic survey in a densely forested region in Angola, the institute said Sunday. Fifty Israeli workers and 250 Angolans will carry out a three-dimensional survey of formations below the surface of a 250 square kilometer piece of the country. GII data from a successful study conducted in the same region last year directly aided in the search for oil, the institute said. The GII has been contacted to participate in tenders for similar projects in Europe and Africa, due to increased interest in oil exploration globally, it said.
