Histadrut Attorney Dorit Tena-Perchik said that she feared another general strike could not be avoided in order to solve the crisis of unpaid wages in the public sector, Israel Radio reported on Friday morning. She said that the problem of unpaid religious council and municipality workers' wages was still no closer to being resolved nor was the problem of withheld pension payments. Tena-Perchik went on to say that the Histadrut was not getting any response to its demands for steps to be taken against municipality heads who were withholding the payments. On Thursday night, National Labor Court President Judge Steve Adler announced that he would give the state one more week to resolve the issue of the unpaid salaries. Therefore, the Histadrut will not be able to declare a public sector strike until the debate on the issue next Friday. Histadrut officials expressed anger at the decision, saying that thousands of municipal employees who were "expecting good news" would be left again without their wages and that the court was allowing the state to "drag out the issue for another week," Army Radio reported. Histadrut representatives called for a renewal of the general strike to exert pressure on the Finance Ministry and the Interior Ministry.
