Finance Minister Ehud Olmert presented a proposal to the Cabinet Wednesday requesting the establishment of a National Communications Authority to oversee all regulatory matters in the telecommunications industry.




Finance Minister Ehud Olmert presented a proposal to the Cabinet Wednesday requesting the establishment of a National Communications Authority to oversee all regulatory matters in the telecommunications industry. The new authority would replace the work done by the Communications Ministry, the Second Authority for Television and Radio (which regulates commercial broadcasts in Israel) and the Council for Satellite and Cable Broadcasting (representing public interests in the multi-channel television sector).Under Olmert's proposal, the new authority would operate as a government body beginning July 1, 2006.
