The Bank of Israel released the third bullion coin in its Jerusalem of Gold
series on Sunday to mark Jerusalem Day. The coin is engraved on one side with
the Knesset Menorah and on the other side with a roaring lion, which was
discovered on an eighth-century Israelite seal found at Megiddo in
1908.
In March, the Israel Coins and Medals Corporation announced the two
other central-bank-issued bullion coins, Tower of David and Western Wall, had
doubled their value in the international coin-collector market since their
respective releases in 2010 and 2011.
Like its two predecessors, the
Knesset Menorah has a nominal value of NIS 20 and constitutes legal tender in
Israel. It is made of .9999 gold, has a diameter of 32 millimeters and weighs
31.1 grams (about one ounce). A maximum of 3,600 coins of this type will be
issued.
