Start-up software company dbMotion has won a $35 million contract with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to integrate its platform across UPMC's network of hospitals and medical centers.

Start-up software company dbMotion has won a $35 million contract with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to integrate its platform across UPMC's network of hospitals and medical centers. The deal is part of UPMC's $84m. project to create a network of interoperability between its centers.
As its first major US contract, the deal marks a turning point for dbMotion, which spun off from Ness Technologies in 2004 backed by venture capital funding from, among others, Vertex Venture Capital, Pitango Venture Capital and Gemini Israel Funds.
The Ra'anana-based company will implement its technology to enable UPMC's clinicians to securely access integrated patient information across its 19 hospitals and 400 outpatient sites and doctors' offices, without replacing existing systems.
Under the agreement, UPMC and dbMotion will also create a joint development partnership to create interoperability solutions for the health care industry.
In its first US military related contract, Petah Tikva-based Eltek, a manufacturer of advanced circuitry solutions, has received an order from a US contractor for flex print circuit boards (PCBs). The PCBs will be used in the production of military equipment and the company said it expects deliveries to begin in the fourth quarter of 2006 and to continue into 2007.
Eltek also said that two US industrial and medical manufacturers have placed follow-on orders for flex rigid PCBs to the tune of $484,000. The PCBs are used in the production of advanced industrial and medical equipment and are expected to be supplied during the fourth quarter of 2006 and the first quarter 2007.
Also expanding its international reach, Tel Aviv-based Dmatek has won two separate contracts to deliver its remote offender monitoring systems for a combined value of $1m. Elmo-Tech, Dmatek's wholly owned subsidiary, which operates in the corrections and law enforcement market, will provide the system to the Government of the Federal District of Mexico City and the New Zealand Police.
Tel Aviv-based provider of interactive text enrichment software WhiteSmoke has partnered with ICQ, a provider of instant messaging services, to create a new platform for English language improvement.
WhiteSmoke's software, which provides spelling and grammar correction, context-related synonym replacements and adjective additions, will be integrated into various ICQ services including chat rooms and forums on the ICQ Web site. WhiteSmoke's language support service will be available free of charge for ICQ users and is expected to appear as an additional icon on the ICQ service. Additional integration with ICQ's instant messenger service is expected later in 2007, the companies said. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
Israeli-founded billing software company Amdocs has extended its contract with satellite TV provider DIRECTV until 2012. Amdocs, which has its main R&D facility in Ra'anana, said it would continue to help DIRECTV maintain its programming services and technology for its more than 15.5 million subscribers.
Under the expanded agreement, Amdocs will provide DIRECTV with customer-facing business support systems (BSS), such as billing and customer management, and also will provide additional consulting services. The two companies will work on a roadmap to allow DIRECTV to enhance its network-facing operations support systems (OSS ) and integrate its BSS and OSS systems to enable the delivery of services, including interactive television and advanced broadband services, Amdocs said.
Amdocs also was selected last week by Mexico's national power company Comision Federal de Electicidad to be the centerpiece of CFE's operations support systems environment.
On the global scene, Symantec Corp. launched its Norton AntiVirus 2007 and Norton Internet Security 2007 as upgrades to its previous products that aim at protecting users from online threats.
The Norton AntiVirus 2007 is designed to give consumers advanced protection against viruses, spyware and related risks. The Norton Internet Security 2007, the company explained, is a security suite that includes the antivirus and antispyware protection of Norton AntiVirus and safeguards against the latest online dangers by providing sophisticated new phishing protection, an enhanced firewall, and defense against software vulnerabilities.
