December sees significant rise in terror incidents

Shin Bet report shows the majority of attacks took place in Jerusalem and West Bank, a rise in Molotov cocktail incidents.

December 2011 saw a significant rise in terror attacks carried out against Israelis, according to data released by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) on Monday.
A total of 81 terror incidents took place in December 2011, compared with 44 incidents in November 2011. The numbers are similar to figures from October, which represents an average for the time of year.

In the Jerusalem area, 25 security related incidents were reported compared with just seven in November, according to the data.
The number of incidents along the border with Gaza also increased, with 30 attacks originating from Gaza in December, compared with 11 in November.
In the West Bank, however, 26 terror attacks were recorded, the same number as in November.
The Shin Bet noted that the increase in the number of attacks was caused in part by an increase in the throwing of Molotov cocktails.
A total of 30 rockets were fired into Israel from Gaza during the month as well as 11 mortar shells, according to the data.
Three Israelis were injured as a result of the terrorist activity, the data showed.
