The Israel Air Force struck a center of terrorist activity in the northern Gaza
Strip overnight Sunday in retaliation to a rocket attack, the IDF
stated.
The IAF recorded an accurate strike and said that all aircraft returned safely to the base.
The attack was a response to high-trajectory fire from Gaza, the IDF said.
“We
will continue to take action against attempts to harm Israeli citizens
and IDF soldiers. Hamas is responsible for all terrorist activity
emanating from the Gaza Strip,” the spokesman added.
A couple of
hours earlier, Palestinians fired a rocket from Gaza into southern
Israel. The rocket exploded in an open field in the Eshkol Regional
Council area. No injuries or damage were reported.
Over the weekend, Home Front Defense Minister Avi Dichter
said Israel would have to alter its deterrence strategy, while visiting a home in Sderot
damaged by a rocket strike. Describing
the current situation as intolerable, Dichter said Israel would have to
initiate a “complete deterrence strategy to stop the terrorism.”
The air force
struck two terrorist targets in Gaza overnight Friday in response to the rocket attack.
Palestinian sources said the air strikes targeted Hamas training facilities, adding that two men were moderately wounded.
