New! on JPost.com: The Hot Potato This is your chance to voice your opinion. We've chosen a controversial / interesting entry that appeared on our site (talkback, blog, etc…) and we want to know what you have to say about it. TODAY'S HOT POTATO: Taken from article: The Sephardi Perspective: The growing chasm in the Haredi world Talkback #: 19 Talkbacker: Eliezer Segal, USA Text: Israel's rebirth was political in nature. Zionism is a political ideology. As such, there is/will always be a need to separate religion from politics. There will be no peace nor harmony if religion becomes politicized & thus counterintuitive to its own mantra. It took Europe 1800 years to separate religion from politics, through wars & revolution to achieve a peaceful coexistence. Let's hope that Israel won't endure civil wars to achieve the same. Ashkenazi Haredim are still plagued w/Galut mentality of messianic proportions that they cannot help themselves. So they need to separate/ghettoize from the rest of the tribes just like the good old days in the Diaspora. Thank G-d for open minded Sepharadim. ABI GIZINT. What do you think?
