My history (100 words max): Born in Whangarei, NZ, Studied at engineering school in Auckland and won Senior Engineering prize in final year. Worked in NZ then went on my dream overseas trip to UK and Israel (mainly Yad-M), ending up in Melbourne, as planned. Learned to fly sailplanes and got up some solo hours (a long held ambition). Became an engineering contractor (as in working as a design engineer on contract) in 2000, saw it was a horrible lifestyle in the long term and got into industrial radiation - though had to shift back to NZ for a while to do so.
Family history (100 words max): My father is vague on this in his journal. He says that 2 generations back the immigrants on his side may have been unobservant Jews - details are all lost. He served with RNZAF as Flt. Sgt in Pacific war, also on att. to USN. On my mother's side my grandfather was at Gallipoli and also (coincidence ?) a signaller who went forward just before the charge of the Aust. Light Horse on Beersheeba. Look up HK. Hatrick in the official history if you think this is a crock.
My brother, Andrew, is a PhD Biochemist who works on bird physiology and marine science in Nelson
Greatest invention: Recently Worked out an algorithm for making equivalent xray shots at different kV on the same tubehead, both for Fe plate and pipe. All the so called experts say it cannot be done and the texts ignore the issue.
If you could have dinner with any person in the world it would be: Primo Levi or perhaps Gilad Shalit
If you could go anywhere on vacation, it would be: Probably walk/kayak the Able Tasman (NZ) track again in autumn with a friend

My life five years from now: Running own xray/NDT lab in Melbourne and building higher tech gear using AVR on the side.
You may not like it but I have something controversial to say: It is 10 minutes to midnight on this Iranian Uranium business. The Russians are out of their minds for providing, it appears, assistance. If the Persians were going the Pu route, they might fail but even a plumber with a lathe and 50kg of cordite can get 50kT out of enriched Uranium. Nobody except Israel seems to realize how fri_ing serious it all is
