The 6th anniversary of the Migdal Haemek Community Forest Project was celebrated with a festive ceremony that took place in the city, with certificates awarded to about 40 volunteers who had completed the Forest Trustees tour guide course.
Migdal Haemek is the first city in Israel to offer this course, which has transformed the volunteers into tour guides, equipping them with the professional knowledge needed for leading groups of hikers and guiding them in the forest.
The ceremony, which took place at the Yad Labanim center, was attended by Migdal Haemek Mayor Eli Barda; KKL-JNF Chief Scientist Dr. Omri Boneh, KKL-JNF Northern Region Director Iftah Harhul, representatives from the Local Council and from KKL-JNF, the volunteers and their family members.
“Migdal Haemek is a city within a forest,” said Mayor Barda. “We have an iron rule, that while developing, the city will protect the forests and the natural woodlands.” To the volunteers he said, “What you have done here is a shining example for people in other places, who are learning from it.”
