Despite the cold weather and occasional showers, over a million people spent Israel's 65th Independence Day at KKL-JNF nature sites throughout the country. Hundreds of people hiked KKL-JNF's new 1948 Trail through the Judean hills, from Har Adar to the Kiryat Anavim military cemetery. KKL

On Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Day in 2012, KKL-JNF dedicated the "1948 Trail" that goes from the thriving community of Har Adar in the Judean hills to the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim. Besides taking hikers through breathtaking landscapes, the trail tells the story of the fierce battles that were fought for the control of this region during Israel's 1948 War of Independence. It was therefore a natural choice for hundreds of Independence Day vacationers to take advantage of KKL-JNF's guided hikes on the new trail to enjoy nature while at the same time learning how Israel's independence was achieved.
