When friends of KKL-JNF from abroad visit Israel, there is always a tour guide who takes them around the country and shows them the various projects KKL-JNF is involved in. In order to train them for this job, KKL-JNF's Tourism Department, which is headed by Efrat Sinai, invites tour guides to a course during which they spend three days in the south, two days in the north, and one day in Israel's central region, learning about KKL-JNF projects in these regions. On Wednesday, January 23, we spent some time with such a group in the north, seeing the sites and hearing the guides' impressions of KKL-JNF.
The group of about 20 tour guides was led by Ma'ayan Dahan and Esther Weinstein, whom one of the guides described as "simply an inspiration." The group was in the north after having been in the south, where they visited reservoirs, research and development stations, new communities being built in the Negev by Or, KKL-JNF's community building movement, and much more. Their tour of the north began with a visit to the Carmel Forest, where they heard about how KKL-JNF was working together with nature to restore the forest, and how tourists could take part in this effort by signing up for KKL-JNF's Forester for a Day program. From the Carmel, they went on the Galilee city of Carmiel, where they were greeted by Aviram Zuk, KKL-JNF's Eastern Galilee and Upper Golan Heights Regional Director, who spent the day with the group and shared his extensive knowledge with them.
