Mofaz: Tal Law replacement will create new social contract

The law that will eventually replace the Tal Law will establish a new social contract, Vice Premier Shaul Mofaz told "Sucker Camp" protesters on Tuesday.
"We will bring about a historic law that will establish a new social treaty. There are no deals. The law will mandate everyone [to serve]," Mofaz told the protesters, who oppose ultra-Orthodox exemptions from serving in the army.
Any law that will be agreed upon must pass two tests, he said. The first is that it must make significant changes to the existing arrangements. The second is a test of whether the law can be implemented.
Mofaz also warned against "populism" that "turns the just struggle for equality in service into a civil war."
