Seven Israeli Professors elected to Academia Europaea

Seven Israeli professors were elected this week to the Academy of Europe, a non-governmental association of scientists and scholars aimed at promoting learning, education and research, among 262 others from around the world representing some 20 disciplines.

Among the new Israeli members are three computer science professors including Tel Aviv University’s Nachum Dershowitz, University of Haifa’s Martin Golumbic and the Technion’s Orna Grunberg; as well as two chemistry professors including the Weizmann Institute’s Jacob Klein and Ronny Neumann.

Tel-Hai College’s social sciences professor Haim Goren and Bar Ilan University’s Linguistic scholar Susan Rothstein were also elected.The seven are joining 27 previous members from Israel.

Founded in 1988, Academia Europaea comprises approximately 3000 members including leading experts from the physical sciences and technology, biological sciences and medicine, mathematics, the letters and humanities, social and cognitive sciences, economics and law.
