US gives Jordan $100m. to help support Syrian refugees

The United States is helping support Syrians fleeing to neighboring states to escape violence, an American diplomat revealed on Sunday, announcing $100 million in aid to Jordan for hosting Syrians, AFP reported.
Washington's Ambassador to Amman, E. Jones said the funds were also earmarked for helping the Hashemite Kingdom meet its energy needs in light of unstable supplies from Egypt, according to the report. The Sinai Peninsula pipeline was bombed on Sunday for the 15th time, cutting off gas supplies.
Jordan is feeling the effects of violence in Syria more than any other country, save for Syria itself, Jones said, according to the report. In light of the financial burden placed on Jordan due to its role hosting Syrians, the aid is intended to address "the added cost of provided services and basic commodities to those fleeing the appalling violence," AFP reported.
