Report: Egypt border fence construction ahead of schedule

The IDF OC Southern Command estimates that erecting a planned new fence on the Egyptian-Israeli border will be completed ahead of schedule, Army Radio reported on Tuesday. The statement was issued as part of a tour by Defense Minister Ehud Barak of the area.

The IDF has also recommended establishing a canal between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea as part of efforts to build obstacles to prevent illegal border infiltration from Jordan. Israel has experienced significant increased attempts to illegally infiltrate its border in recent years.
