Libyan ambassador to Portugal quits in protest

LISBON, Portugal — Libya's ambassador to Portugal on Friday said he is quitting in protest of Tripoli's violent crackdown on protesters.
Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Emdored told The Associated Press Friday he has resigned "due to the killing of my people ... by this fascist regime."
"I don't like representing people who are killing my people," Emdored said in a telephone call.
The Libyan embassy also issued a statement confirming the resignation.
Emdored urged the international community "to assist my people immediately, to stop this massacre."
