Defense Ministry to release funds for hesder yeshivot

Following intense public pressure, the Defense Ministry announced Tuesday that it was releasing funds for hesder yeshivot, many of which were in dire financial straits after the money for 2011 was not transferred.
Hesder yeshivot are Jewish seminaries whose students combine their religious studies with army service, usually over a period of five years.
According to Eitan Ozeri, director of the Association of Hesder Yeshivot, the budget for ten yeshivas would be transferred within the coming two weeks.
“The delay was unnecessary and damaging,” Ozeri said. “I hope that next year’s budget will be transferred much earlier like it is to other organizations which are supported by the Defense Ministry.”
