Mitchell to arrive in Israel on Sunday

US Middle East envoy George Mitchell will arrive in Israel on Sunday and meet with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak before the two leave for Washington, Israel Radio quoted senior diplomatic sources as saying Thursday.

Following urgent conversation between Barak and Mitchell in an attempt to bridge the rift between the US and Israel since the announcement of the Ramat Shlomo construction plans, Mitchell is on his way to start mediation in the peace negotiations.

Measures showing commitment to the negotiations, in response to US demands, were formulated in a meeting of the forum of seven top ministers Wednesday night, but what those steps may be has not been made public.
