Lapid decries Treasury, Labor for tax plans

Yesh Atid party leader Yair Lapid on Monday denounced both the Finance Ministry and the Labor party for plans he said would increase taxes on the middle class.
Of the Treasury plan, which Lapid said would raise taxes on over 400,000 middle class families, the journalist-turned politician wondered "Why always the middle class? Can't we for once cut the budget for the haredim? Can't we cut a single cent from the settlements?"
He then blasted Labor leader Shelly Yacimovich for coming to the defense of settlers. "The middle class can get a tax increase but we can't cut back on bypass roads for the settlements that would never remain in Israel under a future agreement?"
Lapid called for bringing haredim into the workforce, reducing the number of ministers in the government and encouraging small business growth.
