Liberman denies all claims in corruption trial

Former foreign minister Avigdor Liberman pleaded not guilty and denied all the charges against him at the opening of his trial on Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses are expected to start testifying in late April and early May, following Passover, which will mean Liberman could not be appointed a minister when Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu forms his new government.

If Liberman is convicted and his actions are found to constitute moral turpitude, he will have to resign from the Knesset and be out of politics for a minimum of seven years.

Liberman was indicted on December 27 for fraud and breach of public trust relating to the Belarusan Ambassador Affair.
