Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman on Thursday called on members of Knesset from across the aisle to support a proposed law from his party Yisrael Beytenu that would require equal military service for all Israelis.
Liberman wrote on his Facebook page, "Bombastic statements are not necessary so that in the ceremony for outstanding soldiers on next year's Independence Day, secular, haredi, Druze and Beduin soldiers are all standing side by side."
What is needed, he continued, is that "everyone who supports (all Israelis) shouldering an equal burden, every MK from the Left and the Right, from the coalition and from the opposition," arrive at the Knesset next month and vote for the proposed law.
"No gimmicks and no excuses," the foreign minister hammered home to his fellow parliamentarians. "Anyone who wants everyone to serve in the army should simply come and vote."
