Algeria turns down French request for aid in search mission

Algeria has turned down a French request to allow sending helicopters from Algeria into the Libyan desert to search for a lost commando unit, London-based Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported Thursday. The group of soldiers belonged to an elite unit and lost its way during a combat mission in the south western Libya.
Al-Quds Al-Arabi cited an Algerian newspaper as saying the French had submitted the request to Algeria at the beginning of the week, and were refused Thursday due to "technical problems."
