305,550
students will be studying in Israel’s higher education institutions this year,
an increase of 2.3 percent since last year, according to the Council for Higher
Education’s statistics released this week.
Students of the 2012-2013
academic year, which starts on Sunday, will study in 67 different academic
institutions across the country. This includes seven universities; 37 colleges
of which 21 are public and 16 are private; 22 colleges of education and the Open
University’s track.
This year also shows a jump in the amount of Haredi students
in the academia: 7200 haredi students will study in the 2012-2013 academic year
compared to 5968 last year and 4782 in the 2009-2010 cycle.
Out of the
305,550 students who are expected to study this year, half are new and will be
just beginning their academic journeys.
