Environmental Protection Ministry teams conducted examinations on 22 factories
in Tel Aviv and the central region on Sunday, where hazardous materials exist in
close proximity to populated areas, the ministry announced.
The IDF Home
Front Command, which provided the list of factories to check, had not decided by
the evening whether the plants examined had sufficiently protective storage or
whether they should transport their materials elsewhere, the Environment
Ministry said. Several of the factories, however, volunteered to move their
materials to other facilities on their own, according to the
ministry.
The inspections on Sunday followed a thorough examination of
plants in the South, close to the Gaza border, on Thursday, during which
hazardous materials not in proper storage were transported to locations deemed
safer.
