Police on Thursday arrested a 22-year-old French national
accused of raping and robbing a fellow French tourist he met by chance on the
way to Israel.
According to the Tel Aviv District Police, in mid-October
a 21-year-old French woman reported to police that she met a French man on her
flight to Israel on October 15th of this year, and after they made each other's
acquaintance they decided to split a hotel room in Tel Aviv in order to save
money.
Police said the woman told them that when the two of them were in
their hotel room the first night the man gave her a pill which he said was a
sleeping pill to help the jet-lagged woman fall asleep. The woman took the pill
and according to police, when she woke up in the morning she said she was naked
and her smart phone and credit cards were gone, and the man she met on the plane
was nowhere to be found.
Police began to search for the man but had no
luck until Thursday, when he made his way to the airport to board a flight home
to France, and was arrested on the spot. The man was brought to a remand
extension at the Rishon Letzion Magistrate's Court later Thursday, where was he
was ordered kept in custody while police work on an indictment.
