Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein met with Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Thursday to discuss the latter's appointment of Maj.-Gen. Gadi Eizenkot to the position of deputy chief of staff.
Weinstein has asked Barak for clarifications over the timing of the appointment, which came during elections season. The attorney general had earlier requested the government to avoid making major appointments during this time.
Barak maintains that the appointment was crucial for the state now, adding that he waited for the results of inquiry into the Harpaz forged document scandal, which cleared Eizenkot of any links to the affair, before making his decision.
Weinstein is expected to make a final decision on the issue in the coming days.
