Cabinet approves NIS 24m. Beit Hatfutsot development plan

The government on Sunday approved an allocation of NIS 24 million between 2012 – 2014 to expand and upgrade Beit Hatfutsot, a sum that will be matched from non-governmental sources.

A statement put out by the Prime Minister's Office said this decision was in line with the government's "commitment to strengthen the history and national heritage of the State of Israel, and its link to Jewish communities around the world."

The statement said that Beit Hatfutsot, as the museum of the Jewish people and an educational center, "is of supreme importance vis-à-vis strengthening the historic awareness of the younger generation in Israel and the Diaspora by telling the fascinating story of the Jewish People, its including culture, art and contribution to humanity as a whole."

The new allocation is in addition to NIS 40 million allocated from 2007-2011, which led to the expansion of the museum and its activities. According to the plan the funds will be used to further expand the museum's exhibition space, upgrade it and fit the museum "with the technological means of the 21st century."
