Report: US Congress to unfreeze $500 million in PA funding

The United States has unblocked nearly $500 million in funding to the Palestinian Authority after it had been frozen by Congress for months, AFP reported a top US official as saying Friday.
"To date, we have moved $295.7 million in fiscal year 2012 money... and $200 million in fiscal year 2013 assistance," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told AFP.
Reports of the hushed financial advance followed a historic visit to the West Bank by US President Barack Obama to meet with Palestinian leaders, his first Middle East visit since being reelected.
The Obama administration also notified Congress in February that it was seeking $200 million to fund US Agency for International Development (USAID) programs for the Palestinians, she told AFP
