“These elections have proven that the public is crying out for the left and for
an alternative,” Meretz Chairwoman Zehava Gal-On said in her speech to Meretz
supporters at the party’s headquarters in Tel Aviv after exit polls were
released on Tuesday night.
The party doubled its mandates for the 19th
Knesset, jumping from its current three seats to either six or
seven.
After the results were published, Gal-On called on leaders of
centrist parties to rally with Meretz and form a strong opposition bloc to
counter Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
