Transportation Ministry publishes Road 6 extension tender

The Transportation Ministry on Tuesday published a tender for the southern stretch of Road 6 (Trans-Israel Highway) to the Lakiya Interchange. The project is part of the Israel National Roads Company Ltd. Netivei Israel plan to link the Negev and the Galilee to the center of the country through a rapid road and rail network.
The new tender includes the six-kilometer stretch eastwards from Lahavim to Lakiya (section 21). The cost will be NIS 200 million. The new section will extend further southeast from the similar length stretch currently under construction between the Rahat Interchange and the Lahavim Interchange at a cost of NIS 315 million. That tender was won by Shikun u'Binui Holdings Ltd. (TASE: SKBN) unit Solel Boneh. At present Road 6 ends near Bet Kama but altogether 60 kilometers more of highway is planned.
In the coming weeks an additional tender will be published for the extension of Road 6 to the Shoket Interchange. Subsequently tenders will be published to Nebatim and Ramat Hovav thus eventually enabling traffic to bypass the Beersheba metropolitan area.
