Settlers on Sunday night elected Avi Ro'eh, 59, to replace Dani Dayan as head of
the Council of Jewish Communities of Judea, Samaria and the Gaza
Strip.
Ro'eh will hold that position, at the same time that he continues
to serve as head of the Binyamin Regional Council. "I see this role as one that
bears an important responsibility and fulfills an important mission," he
said.
"I will work to connect the nation of Israel with the settlement
enterprise," said Ro'eh who has been the head of the Binyamin Regional Council
since 2007.
The council secretariat first proposed him for the position
two weeks ago. On Sunday night the council's larger administrative body,
including many council and regional heads, as well as council members, voted him
in. But his position won't be finally ratified until a larger body, until a
larger plenum of council members meets in a few months. But this is considered a
formality, and Ro'eh is now considered to be the council head. He is seventh
person to head the council since its inception 1980.
