A 40-year-old geneticist, who has been growing her lovely hair for a decade, this week donated over 30 centimeters of it to the PELE organization at Rehovot’s Kaplan Medical Center to have it made into a wig for an eight-year-old girl who is undergoing cancer treatment.
The scientist, Dr. Hila Kremer, heads the genetic-screening unit at Kaplan and lives in Nes Ziona. She arrived at the hair salon of Eli Ben Zikri, the head of PELE, to donate her hair.
Kremer’s own mother died of cancer, and Hila diagnoses leukemia, lymphoma and other cancers in patients on a regular basis. She is thus very familiar with the disease and the difficulty with women’s coping with baldness that usually results from chemotherapy.
