Yad Vashem to advise Polish PM on Holocaust remembrance

The Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk appointed Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev to the position of deputy chairman of the International Auschwitz Council, it was announced Tuesday.
Founded in 2000, the International Auschwitz Council consults the Polish prime minister about the preservation of the former Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz and other Holocaust memorials.
“As the events of the Holocaust recede into history, there are growing challenges in preserving the authentic sites of the Holocaust, where the murders took place,” said Shalev.
“This is especially so if these sites are to serve as tools in meaningful Holocaust remembrance and education and in shaping Holocaust remembrance in future generations.”
