Tunisian leader calls for flogging those who slander

The leader of Tunisia's ruling Islamist Ennahda party called for the institution of flogging as punishment for people charged with slander, Al Arabiya reported Sunday.
Rachid Ghannouchi made his comments in reference to a female blogger who recently accused the leader's son-in-law of corruption and of engaging in an affair.
Ghannouchi said that Tunisian blogger Olfa Riahi maintained the “values of hypocrites” and should be punished in accordance with Shariah law.
Riahi had published documents allegedly showing that Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem had used government funds to pay for the hotel rooms in which he was conducting his affair.
